6. Discuss the issues raised in the targeting of national and local audiences by international or global institutions
Two decades ago (2000-2010) there weren't many examples of popular/big independent media sources. However in the last decade with the rise of YouTube many independent creators have come to the forefront of popularity. The most recent example of this is between ESPN and “The Pat MacAfee Show.” ESPN has been the most popular source of sports news for years, mainly by having talk show formats on TV throughout the day drawing audiences from across the U.S. However, this has all changed with the rise of social media and the fall of cable. Now it can be argued that “The Pat MacAfee Show” is more popular than ESPN. This is because this show has prioritized the youth audience on YouTube and has not fallen to the “suit and ties” problems that ESPN suffers from.

5. Discuss the ways in which your own experiences of media consumption illustrate wider patterns and trends in audience behavior.
As a teenager in 2021 my ways of media consumption are a lot different than what the average American was 10 years ago. However, a lot of the ways I consume media are becoming more popular. Similarly the older ways of media consumption are becoming less popular as the world becomes increasingly more digitized. One of the old ways of media that has decreased in popularity is TV due to Social media influence. In recent years there has been a steady decline in the popularity of TV while social media websites like YouTube and Twitch have become extremely more popular. The ways people get their news can be found in three-four minute long YouTube videos, and millions of people around the world turn to both YouTube and Twitch for entertainment. This has changed greatly since 10 years ago where most entertainment and news came from cable TV. This new way I get media consumption has shown a trend in audience behaviour towards a more online distribution of information. 4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
The usage of technology and software during the creation of my project was extremely important. Originally I used photopia for my magazine cover and table of contents, but the program was very hard to use for text and other designs. Then I switched to the software Canva. Utilizing this website saved me a lot of stress, and also helped me a lot with making designing simpler and easier. I also used the regular photoshop program to edit some images to use in my designs. Overall the software I used greatly impacted my project for the better. 3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Throughout the development of this project many new production skills were needed in order to create my project. A lot of these skills had to do with the formatting and the development of the magazine. An example of this is with the use of photoshop with the creation and design of the front cover. The front cover of the magazine is one of the most important parts because it can attract viewers to want to look at it. Another production skill that was developed was the formatting of text in the table of contents and the individual articles. The way I had to create these things changed the format in order to make it clear to read for the readers. 2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
When creating my magazine I realized that I needed to have a good engagement with my audience. My magazine engages with my audiences very well. This is due to the wide array of topics that can be discussed using video games. An example of this is in my front cover where one of my “headlines is tips and tricks.” This is a great way to engage with an audience who wants to get better at a game, or maybe even learn something new. The other headlines that are used on the cover also do a very good job engaging my audience. The “headlines” on the front cover are a way to lure the audience into reading and engaging with my magazine. My magazine will mainly be distributed in two ways. The first and most important way is through an online magazine. As technology has become more and more popular in today's era, the usage of an online magazine is vital to success. The other way to distribute my magazine is through physical copies. The way this would be done is physically in stores like GameStop, and Walmart (in the video game section.) The next way to distribute the magazine is through an optional online ordering where the consumer/audience can order a physical copy online which they can bring home. These ways of distribution should greatly increase the distribution of the magazine. Q1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
My product both uses, and challenges the conventions of a normal magazine. My magazine is about the things happening in the video game, and the technology world. The conventions that are challenged in my magazine is the range of topics that can be talked about. My magazine can speak on a range of things like twitch content creators, to a new video game coming out, to even a new PC coming out. This range of topics allow for multiple groups to read my magazines compared to others. With other types of magazines there’s only really 1 audience group to try and get. My magazine still uses normal conventions of a magazine. The basic format of my magazine is normal and the cover and table of contents are inspired using a mix of other magazines. My magazine doesn’t tackle many of the social issues that have been happening around the world, however, in the video game world it does tackle many of the social groups and issues. The main social group that coincides with the magazine is today’s millennials and teens. These groups are the main people who play and are interested in video games which means that those groups are the ones that will have to be represented in the magazine. For the other things on my magazine project Google slides and Google docs greatly helped me. These software's allowed me to get my ideas and thoughts onto a website and be able to utilize them into my magazine. An example of this is with my improvement on my cover. Utilizing google docs I was able to write the pros and cons of my original magazine cover and was able to figure out what was wrong with it and how I can improve on it. The way other online resources helped me was for extraneous information I required, but also some great examples of other magazines that personally inspired me on how I wanted to create mine and gave me certain examples of what I did and did not want to do.

Before I began this project with my magazine my production skills were very below par. I had dabbled in the program photoshop and creating cool images and editing them to look different, but I never had a challenge like creating the magazine. I had little to no knowledge on how to create a magazine before the project, and even with my background knowledge on photoshop I was still very lost at the beginning. However, throughout the progression of my magazine my production skills have greatly increased and I have significantly better knowledge on how to create things to attract an audience and to create an enjoyable magazine for people to read.
